Dr. Andrew Kleinman is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in breast augmentation. In order to achieve your desired look, he will work closely with you to develop an individualized treatment plan. As with all forms of surgery, it's important that those considering breast augmentation be in good health and have realistic expectations regarding the outcome. Your breast augmentation surgery may be performed with general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation. An average of one to two hours it usually needed to complete the surgery. Incisions may be located in several possible locations including around the areola, in the armpit, or in the crease beneath the breast. Once the incisions are made, the implant is inserted either beneath the chest muscle or above the chest muscle. The implants are made of a silicone shell which is filled with either saline or silicone gel. Recovery after breast augmentation will include some swelling and bruising. The swelling may take as much as three to five weeks to subside. Some soreness and discomfort can occur which can be countered with medication, and the breasts may remain sensitive to stimulation for several weeks. Dressings and drainage tubes, if used, are removed after several days while the stitches are usually removed within seven to ten days. Patients may be required to wear a surgical bra for a period of time. Most breast augmentation patients are back to work and their usual routine within a few days. |
