Also known as a forehead lift, the browlift is a plastic surgery procedure which can revitalize the forehead area, improving drooping and creasing that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. The surgery restores a more youthful and refreshed appearance by improving forehead creases, drooping eyebrows, furrowed forehead lines and frown lines, and hooding over the eyes. The browlift may be performed with a traditional approach or with the less invasive endoscopic technique.

Your browlift surgery may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. An average of one to two hours is typically needed to complete the surgery. The incision for a traditional browlift is called a coronal incision. Shaped like headphones, it runs behind the hairline between the ears and across the top of the forehead. For an endoscopic browlift, three to five short incisions are made behind the hairline. Once the incisions are made, excess tissue is removed, the forehead muscles are altered or released, the eyebrows may be elevated, and excess skin is trimmed.

Recovery after the browlift will involve some degree of bruising and swelling. Bruising usually fades within two to three weeks. Some patients also experience headaches, numbness and discomfort which can be countered with medication. Bandages may be removed within a day or two while stitches are usually removed within one to two weeks. Most browlift patients are back to work and their usual routine within seven to ten days. The recovery after an endoscopic browlift is generally shorter and less extensive than after a traditional browlift.
