The Neck Lift is a plastic surgery procedure which can reduce sagging skin of the neck and jaw line, improving the neck contour. During surgery, excess skin and fat are removed from the neck and the neck muscles may be altered. The neck lift restores a firmer, more youthful appearance to the neck and jaw line and can dramatically improve the appearance of jowls, neck banding, a fleshy neck or a ‘turkey waddle’. This surgery is often performed in combination with a facelift.
Dr. Andrew Kleinman is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in neck lift surgery. As with all of his surgeries, the doctor works closely with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan that can best achieve the patient’s desired look. The ideal candidates for neck lift surgery include men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of sagging skin in the neck and jaw areas. As with all types of surgery, it’s important that neck lift patients also be in good health and have realistic expectations for the outcome.
Your neck lift surgery may be performed with either local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. Anywhere from two to four hours may be needed to complete the procedure. Incisions are typically placed in well-concealed locations, often under the chin and/or behind the ears. Working through the incisions, Dr. Kleinman will remove excess fat and skin. If necessary, he will also tighten the neck muscles before re-draping the skin and closing the incisions.
Patients can expect some bruising and swelling after their neck lift surgery. These side effects may take several weeks to resolve. Some discomfort may also occur, though this is usually not too significant and can be treated with medications. Numbness of the skin may also occur in some patients and this can last for several weeks as well. Most neck lift patients are able to return to work and their normal routine within about seven to ten days after surgery. |
